Book of Mormon

Covenant of Christ

Paragraph 1

1

And now it came to pass that when Jesus had spoken these words, he looked upon the twelve whom he had chosen, and said unto them, Remember the words which I have spoken. For behold, ye are they whom I have chosen to minister unto this people.

Paragraph 1

1

And now after Jesus said these words, He looked at the twelve He had chosen and said unto them: Remember the words I’ve spoken. Realize you are the ones I’ve chosen as ministers to this people.

Paragraph 2

2

Therefore, I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink, nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat? And the body than raiment? 26 Behold the fowls of the air, for they sow not, neither do they reap nor gather into barns; yet your Heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

Paragraph 2

2

Therefore I tell you: Don’t focus on yourself, worrying about what you’ll eat or what you’ll drink, nor for yourself and what you’ll wear. Isn’t life more than food? And the body more than clothes? 26 Notice the birds in the air. They don’t plant, nor do they harvest and store in barns, but your Heavenly Father feeds them. Don’t you matter more than them?

Paragraph 3

3

27 Which of you, by taking thought, can add one cubit unto his stature? 28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They toil not, neither do they spin; 29 and yet I say unto you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, even so will he clothe you if ye are not of little faith. 31 Therefore, take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? Or, What shall we drink? Or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 For your Heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.

Paragraph 3

3

27 Which of you, by wanting it, can add one inch to his height? 28 And why do you think about clothing yourself? Look at the lilies of the field, how they grow. They make no effort to cover themselves; 29 and yet I tell you even Solomon at the height of his glory wasn’t as splendid as one of these. 30 Accordingly, if God clothes the grass of the field like that, which grows today and tomorrow is burned in an oven, He will also clothe you if you aren’t faithless. 31 Therefore don’t worry and ask: What will we eat? Or, What will we drink? Or, What will we wear? 32 For your Heavenly Father knows you need all these things. 33 But you should first seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these other things will be provided for you.

Paragraph 4

4

34 Take, therefore, no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient is the day unto the evil thereof.

Paragraph 4

4

34 Therefore don’t worry about tomorrow, for the next day will have its demands. Each day will have enough challenges to occupy you.

Paragraph 5

5

14 And now it came to pass that when Jesus had spoken these words, he turned again to the multitude and did open his mouth unto them again, saying, Verily, verily I say unto you, judge not, that ye be not judged; 2 for with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged, and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

Paragraph 5

5

14 And now after Jesus had said this, He turned back to the crowd and addressed them again, saying: I warn you not to condemn others so that you aren’t condemned; for the reason you condemn anyone else will be the reason you’re also condemned — your standards for others will be used against you.

Paragraph 6

6

3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull the mote out of thine eye, and behold, a beam is in thine own eye? 5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye. 6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again, and rend you.

Paragraph 6

6

And why do you focus on the bit of sawdust in your brother’s eye, but ignore the log in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother: Let me pull the sawdust out of your eye, while there’s a log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first get the log out of your own eye, and then you can see clearly enough to remove the bit of sawdust out of your brother’s eye. Don’t give anything holy to dogs, nor place your pearls in front of pigs and watch them be trampled underfoot, because then the pigs turn and attack you.

Paragraph 7

7

7 Ask and it shall be given unto you, seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you; 8 for everyone that asketh, receiveth, and he that seeketh, findeth, and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened.

Paragraph 7

7

Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened to you; indeed, everyone that asks, receives, and anyone that seeks, finds, and to the one that knocks, it will be opened.

Paragraph 8

8

9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? 10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father who is in Heaven give good things to them that ask him? 12 Therefore, all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them, for this is the law and the prophets.

Paragraph 8

8

Or who of you, if your child asks for bread, will give them a stone? 10 Or if your child asks for a fish, will give them a snake? 11 If you then, with all your faults, still understand how to respond to your children’s requests, how much more does your Father who is in heaven know how to respond kindly to things asked of Him? 12 Therefore everything you expect others to do for you, do that for them, for that will satisfy the law and the prophets.

Paragraph 9

9

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there be who go in thereat; 14 because strait is the gate and narrow is the way which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Paragraph 9

9

13 You should enter through the narrow gate, for the gate is wide and the road is vast that leads to destruction, and many enter through those; 14 because the gate is narrow and the pathway tight leading to life, and very few find it.

Paragraph 10

10

15 Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns? Or figs of thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bringeth forth good fruit, but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every 19 tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down and cast into the fire. 20 Wherefore, by their fruits ye shall know them.

Paragraph 10

10

15 Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inside they’re ravenous wolves. 16 You can identify them by their results. Can you gather grapes from thorns? Or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise you know that every good fruit tree produces good fruit, but diseased trees produce diseased fruit. 18 A good tree doesn’t produce bad fruit, neither does a diseased tree produce good fruit. 19 Every tree that fails to produce good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by the fruit produced you can identify them.

Paragraph 11

11

21 Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of Heaven, but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in Heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? And in thy name have cast out devils? And in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you. Depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Paragraph 11

11

21 Not everyone that says to Me, Lord! Lord! will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only those who obey the will of My Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me on that day: Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name? And in Your name cast out devils? And in Your name accomplished many wonderful things? 23 And I’ll respond to them: I never knew you. Get away from Me, you that embraced iniquity.

Paragraph 12

12

24 Therefore, whoso heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man who built his house upon a rock; 25 and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, and it fell not, for it was founded upon a rock. 26 And everyone that heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them not shall be likened unto a foolish man who built his house upon the sand; 27 and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.

Paragraph 12

12

24 Therefore anyone who hears these teachings from Me and obeys them, I’ll compare to a wise man who built his house on bedrock; 25 and the rain fell, the floods came, and the tempests beat against that house, but it remained unharmed, because it was built on bedrock. 26 In contrast, everyone that hears these teachings from Me and disobeys them I’ll compare to a foolish man who built his house on the sand; 27 and the rain fell, the floods came, and the tempests beat against that house, and it failed, and its collapse was terrible.
