Book of Mormon
Covenant of Christ
Paragraph 1
1
17 Behold, now it came to pass that when Jesus had spoken these words, he looked round about again on the multitude and he said unto them, Behold, my time is at hand. 2 I perceive that ye are weak, that ye cannot understand all my words which I am commanded of the Father to speak unto you at this time; 3 therefore, go ye unto your homes, and ponder upon the things which I have said, and ask of the Father, in my name, that ye may understand and prepare your minds for the morrow, and I come unto you again. 4 But now I go unto the Father, and also to shew myself unto the lost tribes of Israel, for they are not lost unto the Father, for he knoweth whither he hath taken them.
Paragraph 1
1
17 When Jesus had said these words, He again looked around at the crowd of people and said to them: It’s time for Me to leave. 2 I can tell you’re weak, and that right now you can’t understand everything the Father commanded Me to say to you. 3 So go to your homes and ponder what I’ve said and ask the Father in My name to help you understand, and prepare your minds for tomorrow, and I’ll come back to you. 4 But right now I’m returning to the Father, and to also show Myself to the lost tribes of Israel, who were never lost to the Father, for He knows where He has led them.
Paragraph 2
2
5 And it came to pass that when Jesus had thus spoken, he cast his eyes round about again on the multitude, and beheld they were in tears and did look steadfastly upon him, as if they would ask him to tarry a little longer with them. 6 And he said unto them, Behold, my bowels are filled with compassion towards you. 7 Have ye any that are sick among you? Bring them hither. Have ye any that are lame, or blind, or halt, or maimed, or leprous, or that are withered, or that are deaf, or that are afflicted in any manner? Bring them hither and I will heal them, for I have compassion upon you, my bowels are filled with mercy; 8 for I perceive that ye desire that I should shew unto you what I have done unto your brethren at Jerusalem, for I see that your faith is sufficient that I should heal you.
Paragraph 2
2
5 When Jesus had said this, He again looked around at the people, who were in tears and looking steadily at Him, as if they wanted to ask Him to remain a little longer with them. 6 He said to them: My heart is full of compassion for you. 7 Are there any of you who are sick? Bring them here. Are there any of you who are lame, blind, crippled, injured, leprous, or infirm, deaf, or that suffer from anything? Bring them here and I’ll heal them, because of the compassion I feel for you; My heart is full of mercy. 8 Yes, I can see you want Me to show you what I did for your fellow Israelites at Jerusalem, since I see you have faith enough to let Me heal you.
Paragraph 3
3
9 And it came to pass that when he had thus spoken, all the multitude with one accord did go forth with their sick, and their afflicted, and their lame, and with their blind, and with their dumb, and with all they that were afflicted in any manner; and he did heal them every one as they were brought forth unto him. 10 And they did all — both they who had been healed and they who were whole — bow down at his feet and did worship him; and as many as could come for the multitude did kiss his feet, insomuch that they did bathe his feet with their tears.
Paragraph 3
3
9 When He had said this, the whole crowd together, brought to Him everyone who was sick, suffering, crippled, blind, mute, or unwell in any way; and He healed every one of them as they were brought up to Him. 10 All of them, including both those who had been healed and those who were healthy, bowed down at His feet and worshiped Him. And everyone who was able to come, despite the size of the crowd, kissed His feet, bathing His feet with their tears.
Paragraph 4
4
11 And it came to pass that he commanded that their little children should be brought; 12 so they brought their little children and sat them down upon the ground round about him, and Jesus stood in the midst. And the multitude gave way till they had all been brought unto him. 13 And it came to pass that when they had all been brought and Jesus stood in the midst, he commanded the multitude that they should kneel down upon the ground. 14 And it came to pass that when they had knelt upon the ground, Jesus groaned within himself, and saith, Father, I am troubled because of the wickedness of the people of the house of Israel. 15 And when he had said these words, he himself also knelt upon the earth, and behold, he prayed unto the Father, and the things which he prayed cannot be written; and the multitude did bear record, who heard him. 16 And after this manner do they bear record: The eye hath never seen, neither hath the ear heard before, so great and marvelous things as we saw and heard Jesus speak unto the Father. 17 And no tongue cannot speak, neither can there be written by any man, neither can the hearts of men conceive so great and marvelous things as we both saw and heard Jesus speak. And no one can conceive of the joy which filled our souls at the time we heard him pray for us unto the Father.
Paragraph 4
4
11 Then He commanded for their little children to be brought. 12 So they brought their little children and sat them down on the ground around Him, and Jesus stood in the middle of them; and the crowd made room until they had all been brought to Him. 13 When they were all brought and Jesus stood in the middle of them, He commanded the crowd to kneel on the ground. 14 When they had knelt on the ground, Jesus groaned to Himself and said: Father, the wickedness of the people of the house of Israel troubles Me. 15 After He said this, He also knelt on the ground. And He prayed to the Father, and what He prayed can’t be written. Those that heard Him testified about it; 16 and they testified to the following: The eye has never seen and the ear has never heard such great and awe-inspiring things we saw and heard Jesus speak to the Father. 17 And no tongue can speak, neither can anyone write, neither can people’s hearts conceive such great and astonishing things as we both saw and heard Jesus speak. No one can conceive of the joy that filled our souls when we heard Him pray to the Father for us.
Paragraph 5
5
18 And it came to pass that when Jesus had made an end of praying unto the Father, he arose, but so great was the joy of the multitude that they were overcome. 19 And it came to pass that Jesus spake unto them and bade them arise. 20 And they arose from the earth, and he said unto them, Blessed are ye because of your faith. And now behold, my joy is full. 21 And when he had said these words, he wept, and the multitude bare record of it. And he took their little children, one by one, and blessed them and prayed unto the Father for them. 22 And when he had done this, he wept again. 23 And he spake unto the multitude, and saith unto them, Behold your little ones. 24 And as they looked to behold, they cast their eyes towards Heaven, and they saw the Heavens open, and they saw angels descending out of Heaven, as it were in the midst of fire. And they came down and encircled those little ones about — and they were encircled about with fire — and the angels did minister unto them. 25 And the multitude did see, and hear, and bear record; and they know that their record is true, for they, all of them, did see and hear, every man for himself. And they were in number about two thousand and five hundred souls, and they did consist of men, women, and children.
Paragraph 5
5
18 When Jesus finished praying to the Father, He got up. But the crowd’s joy overwhelmed them. 19 Jesus told them to stand back up; 20 and they got up from the ground. Then He told them: Blessed are you because of your faith. Now My joy is complete. 21 When He had said these words, He wept; and the crowd testified of it. Then He took their little children, one by one, and blessed them and prayed to the Father for them. 22 When He had done this, He again wept. 23 He told the crowd: Notice your little ones. 24 As they looked at them, their eyes were drawn up to heaven; and they saw the heavens open, and they saw angels descending from heaven as if they descended in a pillar of fire. And they descended and surrounded the little ones, who then were also surrounded by fire, and the angels ministered to them. 25 And the crowd saw, heard, and testified. They know their record is true, because all of them saw and heard, everyone for themselves. In total, there were about 2,500 people, who consisted of men, women, and children.
Paragraph 6
6
18 And it came to pass that Jesus commanded his disciples that they should bring forth some bread and wine unto him. 2 And while they were gone for bread and wine, he commanded the multitude that they should sit themselves down upon the earth. 3 And when the disciples had come with bread and wine, he took of the bread, and brake and blessed it, and he gave unto the disciples and commanded that they should eat. 4 And when they had eat and were filled, he commanded that they should give unto the multitude. 5 And when the multitude had eaten and were filled, he said unto the disciples, Behold, there shall one be ordained among you, and to him will I give power that he shall break bread and bless it, and give it unto the people of my church, unto all those who shall believe and be baptized in my name. 6 And this shall ye always observe to do, even as I have done, even as I have broken bread and blessed it, and gave it unto you. 7 And this shall ye do in remembrance of my body which I have shewn unto you. And it shall be a testimony unto the Father that ye do always remember me. And if ye do always remember me, ye shall have my spirit to be with you.
Paragraph 6
6
18 Then Jesus commanded His disciples to bring Him some bread and wine. 2 And while they were gone for bread and wine, He commanded the crowd to sit down on the ground. 3 When the disciples returned with bread and wine, He took the bread and broke it and blessed it, and He gave it to the disciples and commanded them to eat. 4 When they had eaten and were filled, He commanded them to give it to the crowd. 5 When the crowd had eaten and were filled, He said to the disciples: One of you will be ordained, and I’ll give him power to break bread and bless it and give it to the people of My congregation, to all who believe and are baptized in My name. 6 You must always make a practice of doing this, just as I’ve done, just as I’ve broken bread and blessed it and given it to you. 7 And you must do this in remembrance of My body, which I’ve shown you. It will be a testimony to the Father that you always remember Me. And if you always remember Me, you’ll have My Spirit to be with you.
Paragraph 7
7
8 And it came to pass that when he had said these words, he commanded his disciples that they should take of the wine of the cup and drink of it, and that they should also give unto the multitude that they might drink of it. 9 And it came to pass that they did so, and did drink of it and were filled. And they gave unto the multitude, and they did drink and they were filled. 10 And when the disciples had done this, Jesus said unto them, Blessed are ye for this thing which ye have done, for this is fulfilling my commandments, and this doth witness unto the Father that ye are willing to do that which I have commanded you. 11 And this shall ye always do unto those who repent and are baptized in my name; and ye shall do it in remembrance of my blood which I have shed for you, that ye may witness unto the Father that ye do always remember me. And if ye do always remember me, ye shall have my spirit to be with you. 12 And I give unto you a commandment that ye shall do these things, and if ye shall always do these things, blessed are ye, for ye are built upon my rock. 13 But whoso among you shall do more or less than these are not built upon my rock, but are built upon a sandy foundation. And when the rain descends, and the floods come, and the winds blow and beat upon them, they shall fall, and the gates of hell is already open to receive them. 14 Therefore, blessed are ye if ye shall keep my commandments which the Father hath commanded me that I should give unto you. 15 Verily, verily I say unto you, ye must watch and pray always, lest ye be tempted by the Devil and ye are led away captive by him. 16 And as I have prayed among you, even so shall ye pray in my church, among my people who do repent and are baptized in my name. Behold, I am the light; I have set an example for you.
Paragraph 7
7
8 After He said this, He commanded His disciples to take the cup of wine and drink from it, and also to give it to the crowd so they could drink. 9 And they did so and drank and were filled. Then they gave it to the crowd and they drank and were filled. 10 After the disciples completed this, Jesus said to them: Blessed are you for this thing that you’ve done, because this fulfills My commandments. This shows the Father that you’re willing to do what I’ve commanded you. 11 You must always do this for those who repent and are baptized in My name. You must do it in remembrance of My blood, which I’ve shed for you, so you can show to the Father that you always remember Me. And if you always remember Me, My Spirit will be with you. 12 I command you to do these things. If you always do these things, you’ll be blessed, since you’re built on My bedrock. 13 But any of you who do more or less than these things aren’t built on My bedrock; you’ve built on a sandy foundation. When the rain falls, the floods come, and the tempests beat against them, they will fall; and the gates of hell are already open to welcome them. 14 Therefore you are blessed if you keep My commandments, which the Father has commanded Me to give you. 15 I warn you: You must be watchful and always pray for strength against the accuser’s temptations, so you aren’t led away by him as his prisoner. 16 And just as I’ve prayed among you, so you must likewise pray in My congregation, with My people who repent and are baptized in My name. I Am the light; I’ve set an example for you.
Paragraph 8
8
17 And it came to pass that when Jesus had spoken these words unto his disciples, he turned again unto the multitude and said unto them, 18 Behold, verily, verily I say unto you, ye must watch and pray always lest ye enter into temptation, for Satan desireth to have you, that he may sift you as wheat; 19 therefore, ye must always pray unto the Father in my name. 20 And whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, which is right, believing that ye shall receive, behold, it shall be given unto you. 21 Pray in your families unto the Father always in my name, that your wives and your children may be blessed. 22 And behold, ye shall meet together oft, and ye shall not forbid any man from coming unto you when ye shall meet together, but suffer them that they may come unto you, and forbid them not. 23 But ye shall pray for them, and shall not cast them out, and if it so be that they come unto you oft, ye shall pray for them unto the Father in my name. 24 Therefore, hold up your light, that it may shine unto the world. Behold, I am the light which ye shall hold up, that which ye have seen me do. Behold, ye see that I have prayed unto the Father, and ye all have witnessed. 25 And ye see that I have commanded that none of you should go away, but rather have commanded that ye should come unto me, that ye might feel and see; even so shall ye do unto the world. And whosoever breaketh this commandment suffereth himself to be led into temptation.
Paragraph 8
8
17 When Jesus had said this to His disciples, He turned back to the crowd and said to them: 18 I truthfully warn you: You must be watchful and always pray so that you won’t fall into temptation, because Satan longs to have you, so he can sift you like wheat. 19 Therefore you must always pray to the Father in My name. 20 And anything you ask the Father in My name that’s right, believing you will receive, it will be given to you. 21 Pray in your families to the Father always in My name, so your wives and your children can be blessed. 22 You must meet together often. And you must not exclude anyone from joining you when you meet together, but let them join you and don’t prohibit them from doing so; 23 but you must pray for them and not throw them out. If they frequently join you, you must pray to the Father for them in My name. 24 Therefore hold up your light, so it can shine to the world. I Am the light that you must hold up, what you’ve seen Me do. You see that I’ve prayed to the Father, and all of you have witnessed it. 25 And you see I haven’t commanded any of you to leave; instead, I’ve commanded you to come to Me, so you could feel and see; you must do the same for the world. Anyone that breaks this commandment allows themselves to be led into temptation.
Paragraph 9
9
26 And now it came to pass that when Jesus had spoken these words, he turned his eyes again upon the disciples whom he had chosen, and said unto them, 27 Behold, verily, verily I say unto you, I give unto you another commandment, and then I must go unto my Father, that I may fulfill other commandments which he hath given me. 28 And now behold, this is the commandment which I give unto you, that ye shall not suffer anyone knowingly to partake of my flesh and blood unworthily when ye shall minister it. 29 For whoso eateth and drinketh my flesh and blood unworthily eateth and drinketh damnation to his soul; therefore, if ye know that a man is unworthy to eat and drink of my flesh and blood, ye shall forbid him. 30 Nevertheless, ye shall not cast him out from among you, but ye shall minister unto him and shall pray for him unto the Father in my name; and if it so be that he repenteth and is baptized in my name, then shall ye receive him and shall minister unto him of my flesh and blood. 31 But if he repent not, he shall not be numbered among my people, that he may not destroy my people. For behold, I know my sheep and they are numbered. 32 Nevertheless, ye shall not cast him out of your synagogues or your places of worship, for unto such shall ye continue to minister; for ye know not but what they will return and repent and come unto me with full purpose of heart, and I shall heal them, and ye shall be the means of bringing salvation unto them. 33 Therefore, keep these sayings which I have commanded you, that ye come not under condemnation, for woe unto him whom the Father condemneth. 34 And I give you these commandments because of the disputations which have been among you. And blessed are ye if ye have no disputations among you. 35 And now I go unto the Father because it is expedient that I should go unto the Father for your sakes.
Paragraph 9
9
26 When Jesus had said these words, He again looked at the disciples He had chosen and said to them: 27 I now tell you: I’ll give you another commandment; and then I must go to My Father, so I can fulfill other commandments He has given Me. 28 Now this is the commandment I give you: you must never allow anyone to knowingly partake of My flesh and blood unworthily when you administer it. 29 Because anyone that eats and drinks My flesh and blood unworthily eats and drinks damnation to their soul. Therefore if you know someone is unworthy to eat and drink My flesh and blood, you must prevent them from doing so. 30 Nevertheless, you must not banish them from your fellowship, but you must minister to them and pray to the Father for them in My name. And if they repent and are baptized in My name, then you must accept them and administer My flesh and blood to them. 31 But if they don’t repent, they can’t be included as part of My people, to prevent them from destroying My people. Because I know My sheep and they’re counted. 32 Nevertheless, you must not drive them out of your meetings or places of worship, since you must continue to minister to them. Because you don’t know whether they will return, repent, and come to Me with all their heart and I will heal them, and you’ll be the means of bringing them to salvation. 33 Therefore obey what I’ve commanded you, so you don’t come under condemnation. For woe to those whom the Father condemns! 34 I’m giving you these commandments because of the arguments that have occurred between you. Blessed are you if you don’t have any disputes. 35 Now I’m going to the Father because it’s necessary for Me to return to the Father for your benefit.
Paragraph 10
10
36 And it came to pass that when Jesus had made an end of these sayings, he touched with his hand the disciples whom he had chosen, one by one, even until he had touched them all, and spake unto them as he touched them. 37 And the multitude heard not the words which he spake, therefore they did not bear record, but the disciples bare record that he gave them power to give the holy ghost. And I will shew unto you hereafter that this record is true. 38 And it came to pass that when Jesus had touched them all, there came a cloud and overshadowed the multitude, that they could not see Jesus. 39 And while they were overshadowed, he departed from them and ascended into Heaven. And the disciples saw and did bear record that he ascended again into Heaven.
Paragraph 10
10
36 When Jesus had finished saying these things, He touched the disciples He had chosen with His hand, one by one, until He had touched them all; and He spoke to them while He touched them. 37 And the crowd didn’t hear what He said; therefore they didn’t testify about it. But the disciples testified that He gave them power to give the Holy Ghost. Later in this record I’ll show you this testimony is true. 38 When Jesus had touched them all, a cloud came and overshadowed the crowd, so they couldn’t see Jesus. 39 While they were overshadowed, He left them and ascended into heaven. The disciples saw and testified that He ascended into heaven again.
