Book of Mormon
Covenant of Christ
Paragraph 1
1
9 And now I, Moroni, proceed with my record. Therefore behold, it came to pass that because of the secret combinations of Akish and his friends, behold, they did overthrow the kingdom of Omer. 2 Nevertheless, the Lord was merciful unto Omer, and also to his sons and to his daughters who did not seek his destruction. 3 And the Lord warned Omer in a dream that he should depart out of the land. Wherefore, Omer departed out of the land with his family, and traveled many days, and came over and passed by the hill of Shim, and came over by the place where the Nephites were destroyed, and from thence eastward, and came to a place which was called Ablom, by the seashore. And there he pitched his tent, and also his sons, and his daughters, and all his household, save it were Jared and his family.
Paragraph 1
1
9 Now I’ll continue with my record. Because of Akish and his friends’ secret alliance, they overthrew Omer’s kingdom. 2 Still, the Lord was merciful to Omer, and to his children who didn’t want to kill him. 3 The Lord warned Omer in a dream to leave the land. So Omer left the land with his family and traveled many days and came over and passed by the hill Shim and went over near the place where the Nephites were slaughtered, and from there eastward, arriving at a place called Ablom, by the seashore. He pitched his tent there, along with his children and his whole household except for Jared and his family.
Paragraph 2
2
4 And it came to pass that Jared was anointed king over the people by the hand of wickedness, and he gave unto Akish his daughter to wife. 5 And it came to pass that Akish sought the life of his father-in-law, and he applied unto those whom he had sworn by the oath of the ancients. And they obtained the head of his father-in-law as he sat upon his throne giving audience to his people. 6 For so great had been the spreading of this wicked and secret society that it had corrupted the hearts of all the people. Therefore, Jared was murdered upon his throne, and Akish reigned in his stead.
Paragraph 2
2
4 Jared was anointed king over the people using wicked means and he gave his daughter to be Akish’s wife. 5 Then Akish plotted to take his father-in-law’s life, using those he had sworn to secrecy with an ancient oath. And they cut off his father-in-law’s head while he sat on his throne listening to his people. 6 Indeed, this evil, secret society had spread so much it had corrupted the hearts and minds of everyone. As a result, Jared was murdered on his throne, and Akish ruled in his place.
Paragraph 3
3
7 And it came to pass that Akish began to be jealous of his son. Therefore, he shut him up in prison and kept him upon a little or no food until he had suffered death. 8 And now the brother of him that suffered death (and his name was Nimrah) and he was angry with his father because of that which his father had done unto his brother. 9 And it came to pass that Nimrah gathered together a small number of men and fled out of the land, and came over and dwelt with Omer. 10 And it came to pass that Akish begat other sons; and they won the hearts of the people, notwithstanding they had sworn unto him to do all manner of iniquity according to that which he desired. 11 Now the people of Akish were desirous for gain, even as Akish was desirous for power. Wherefore, the sons of Akish did offer them money, by the which means they drew away the more part of the people after them. 12 And there began to be a war between the sons of Akish and Akish, which lasted for the space of many years, yea, unto the destruction of nearly all the people of the kingdom, yea, even all save it were thirty souls, and they who fled with the house of Omer. 13 Wherefore, Omer was restored again to the land of his inheritance.
Paragraph 3
3
7 Then Akish got jealous of his son. So he imprisoned him and provided him with little or no food until he died. 8 Now the one who had died had a brother named Nimrah, and he was angry with his father because of what he had done to his brother. 9 So Nimrah gathered a small number of men and escaped from the land and came over and lived with Omer. 10 Then Akish had other sons, who won the hearts of the people, despite having sworn to Akish to follow his orders to commit all kinds of iniquity. 11 Now Akish’s people wanted to become rich, just as Akish wanted power. So Akish’s sons offered them money, and in this way they drew away the majority of the people to follow them. 12 A war began between Akish and his sons, lasting many years, resulting in nearly everyone in the kingdom being killed. Only 30 people survived, besides those who had escaped with Omer’s household. 13 So Omer was restored to his own land.
Paragraph 4
4
14 And it came to pass that Omer began to be old. Nevertheless, in his old age he begat Emer; and he anointed Emer to be king, to reign in his stead. 15 And after that he had anointed Emer to be king, he saw peace in the land for the space of two years, and he died, having seen exceeding many days which were full of sorrow. And it came to pass that Emer did reign in his stead and did fill the steps of his father. 16 And the Lord began again to take the curse from off the land. And the house of Emer did prosper exceedingly under the reign of Emer. And in the space of sixty and two years they had become exceeding strong, insomuch that they became exceeding rich, 17 having all manner of fruit, and of grain, and of silks, and of fine linen, and of gold, and of silver, and of precious things, 18 and also all manner of cattle, of oxen and cows, and of sheep, and of swine, and of goats, and also many other kind of animals which were useful for the food of man. 19 And they also had horses and asses, and there were elephants, and cureloms, and cumoms, all of which were useful unto man, and more especially the elephants, and cureloms, and cumoms. 20 And thus the Lord did pour out his blessings upon this land which was choice above all other lands. And he commanded that whoso should possess the land should possess it unto the Lord, or they should be destroyed when they were ripened in iniquity. For upon such, saith the Lord, I will pour out the fullness of my wrath.
Paragraph 4
4
14 Then Omer grew old. Nevertheless, in his old age he had a son named Emer, whom he anointed to be king, to rule as his successor. 15 After he had anointed Emer to be king, Omer had peace in the land for two years. Then he died, having lived through many unhappy years. Emer ruled in his place and followed his father’s example. 16 The Lord again began to remove the curse from the land. Emer’s household prospered greatly under his rule. In 62 years they had become very prosperous, so much so that they became very wealthy, 17 having all kinds of fruit and grain, textiles, fine linen, gold, silver, and valuables, 18 and all kinds of cattle, oxen, cows, sheep, swine, goats, and many other kinds of animals useful for man’s food. 19 They also had horses and donkeys, as well as elephants, cureloms, and cumoms, all useful to man, but especially the elephants, cureloms, and cumoms. 20 So the Lord poured out His blessings on this land, which was specially chosen above all other lands. He commanded all who might live on the land to live there in obedience to the Lord, or they would be swept away when they had ripened in iniquity. The Lord said: I’ll pour out the full extent of My wrath upon them.
Paragraph 5
5
21 And Emer did execute judgment in righteousness all his days, and he begat many sons and daughters; and he begat Coriantum, and he anointed Coriantum to reign in his stead. 22 And after that he had anointed Coriantum to reign in his stead, he lived four years and he saw peace in the land. Yea, and he even saw the Son of Righteousness and did rejoice and glory in his day, and he died in peace.
Paragraph 5
5
21 Emer administered justice in righteousness his whole life, and he had many sons and daughters. Among them he had a son named Coriantum, whom he anointed to rule as his successor. 22 After he had anointed Coriantum to rule in his place, he lived four years, experiencing peace in the land. He even saw the Son of Righteousness and was glad and rejoiced in his day, and he died in peace.
Paragraph 6
6
23 And it came to pass that Coriantum did walk in the steps of his father, and did build many mighty cities, and did administer that which was good unto his people in all his days. And it came to pass that he had no children, even until he was exceeding old. 24 And it came to pass that his wife died, being a hundred and two years old. And it came to pass that Coriantum took to wife in his old age a young maid, and begat sons and daughters; wherefore, he lived until he was an hundred and forty and two years old. 25 And it came to pass that he begat Com, and Com reigned in his stead. And he reigned forty and nine years, and he begat Heth, and he also begat other sons and daughters. 26 And the people had spread again over all the face of the land. And there began again to be an exceeding great wickedness upon the face of the land; and Heth began to embrace the secret plans again of old, to destroy his father. 27 And it came to pass that he did dethrone his father, for he slew him with his own sword; and he did reign in his stead.
Paragraph 6
6
23 Coriantum followed his father’s example, and he built many great cities and administered good things to his people his whole life. He didn’t have any children until he was very old. 24 His wife died when she was 102 years old. Then Coriantum married a young woman in his old age and had sons and daughters. He lived until he was 142 years old. 25 He had a son named Com, who ruled as his successor. He ruled 49 years, and he had a son named Heth; and he also had other sons and daughters. 26 The people had spread again over the whole land. And a very great wickedness returned to the land again. Heth began to embrace the secret, ancient plans once more, in order to kill his father. 27 He dethroned his father, killing him with his own sword. And he ruled in his place.
Paragraph 7
7
28 And there came prophets in the land again, crying repentance unto them, that they must prepare the way of the Lord or there should come a curse upon the face of the land; yea, even there should be a great famine, in the which they should be destroyed if they did not repent. 29 But the people believed not the words of the prophets, but they cast them out. And some of them they cast into pits and left them to perish. And it came to pass that they done all these things according to the commandment of the king Heth. 30 And it came to pass that there began to be a great dearth upon the land. And the inhabitants began to be destroyed exceeding fast because of the dearth, for there was no rain upon the face of the earth. 31 And there came forth poisonous serpents also upon the face of the land, and did poison many people. And it came to pass that their flocks began to flee before the poisonous serpents towards the land southward, which was called by the Nephites, Zarahemla. 32 And it came to pass that there were many of them which did perish by the way; nevertheless, there were some which fled into the land southward. 33 And it came to pass that the Lord did cause the serpents that they should pursue them no more, but that they should hedge up the way, that the people could not pass, that whoso should attempt to pass might fall by the poisonous serpents. 34 And it came to pass that the people did follow the course of the beasts, and did devour the carcasses of them which fell by the way until they had devoured them all.
Paragraph 7
7
28 Prophets came into the land again, crying out repentance to them, that they must prepare the way for the Lord, or a curse would descend upon the land; indeed, there would be a great famine and they would die if they didn’t repent. 29 But the people didn’t believe the prophets’ words, and they exiled them. They threw some of them into pits and left them to die. They did all these things following king Heth’s command. 30 Then a severe famine arose in the land. The people began to die very quickly from the famine, since it didn’t rain. 31 Venomous snakes appeared on the land, poisoning many people. Their flocks started fleeing from the snakes toward the land to the south, which the Nephites later called Zarahemla. 32 And many flocks died while fleeing. But some of them escaped into the land southward. 33 The Lord caused the snakes to stop pursuing them and instead, they blocked the way, so the people couldn’t pass, and any who tried to get through died from the venomous snakes. 34 The people followed the path of the animals and ate the carcasses of those that died as they were fleeing, until they had devoured them all.
Paragraph 8
8
Now when the people saw that they must perish, they began to repent of their iniquities and cry unto the Lord. 35 And it came to pass that when they had humbled themselves sufficiently before the Lord, the Lord did send rain upon the face of the earth. And the people began to revive again, and there began to be fruit in the north countries and in all the countries round about. And the Lord did shew forth his power unto them in preserving them from famine.
Paragraph 8
8
When the people saw they were going to die, they began to repent of their iniquities and cry out to the Lord. 35 When they had humbled themselves sufficiently before the Lord, the Lord sent rain on the earth. And the people began to recover, and fruit began to grow in the north country and the surrounding regions. The Lord reminded them of His power by saving them from famine.
Paragraph 9
9
10 And it came to pass that Shez, who was a descendant of Heth (for Heth had perished by the famine, and all his household save it were Shez), wherefore Shez began to build up again a broken people. 2 And it came to pass that Shez did remember the destruction of his fathers, and he did build up a righteous kingdom; for he remembered what the Lord had done in bringing Jared and his brother across the deep. And he did walk in the ways of the Lord, and he begat sons and daughters. 3 And his eldest son, whose name was Shez, did rebel against him. Nevertheless, Shez was smitten by the hand of a robber because of his exceeding riches, which brought peace again unto his father. 4 And it came to pass that his father did build up many cities upon the face of the land. And the people began again to spread over all the face of the land. And Shez did live to an exceeding old age, and he begat Riplakish, and he died. And Riplakish reigned in his stead.
Paragraph 9
9
10 Heth as well as his whole household had died from the famine except for his descendant Shez. Then Shez began to rebuild a broken people. 2 He remembered the destruction of his forefathers, and he established a righteous kingdom, remembering what the Lord had done in bringing Jared and his brother across the sea. He lived the way the Lord commanded, and he had sons and daughters. 3 But his oldest son, whose name was also Shez, rebelled against him. However, he was struck down and killed by a robber because of his great wealth, giving his father peace once more. 4 His father built many cities on the land. The people again began to spread over the land. Shez lived to be very old, and he had a son named Riplakish. Then Shez died, and Riplakish ruled as his successor.
Paragraph 10
10
5 And it came to pass that Riplakish did not do that which was right in the sight of the Lord, for he did have many wives and concubines, and did lay that upon men’s shoulders which was grievous to be borne. Yea, he did tax them with heavy taxes, and with the taxes he did build many spacious buildings. 6 And he did erect him an exceeding beautiful throne. And he did build many prisons. And whoso would not be subject unto taxes he did cast into prison. And whoso was not able to pay taxes he did cast into prison. And he did cause that they should labor continually for their support. And whoso refused to labor he did cause to be put to death. 7 Wherefore, he did obtain all his fine work; yea, even his fine gold he did cause to be refined in prison, and all manner of fine workmanship he did cause to be wrought in prison.
Paragraph 10
10
5 But Riplakish didn’t live righteously in the Lord’s eyes, since he had many wives and concubines, and he oppressed the people with burdens difficult to bear. He imposed heavy taxes and built many spacious buildings with the tax revenue. 6 He erected a very beautiful throne for himself and built many prisons. He imprisoned any who refused to pay taxes. He threw any who were unable to pay taxes into prison, making them work continually for their support. He had any who refused to work put to death. 7 He obtained all his fine things, including pure gold that was refined in prison. He had a variety of fine pieces of craftsmanship made in prison.
Paragraph 11
11
And it came to pass that he did afflict the people with his whoredoms and abominations. 8 And when he had reigned for the space of forty and two years, the people did raise up in rebellion against him. And there began to be war again in the land, insomuch that Riplakish was killed and his descendants were driven out of the land. 9 And it came to pass, after the space of many years, Morionton (he being a descendant of Riplakish) gathered together an army of outcasts, and went forth and gave battle unto the people. And he gained power over many cities, and the war became exceeding sore and did last for the space of many years; and he did gain power over all the land and did establish himself king over all the land. 10 And after that he had established himself king, he did ease the burden of the people, by which he did gain favor in the eyes of the people; and they did anoint him to be their king. 11 And he did do justice unto the people, but not unto himself because of his many whoredoms; wherefore, he was cut off from the presence of the Lord.
Paragraph 11
11
He afflicted the people with his whoredoms and abominations. 8 When he had ruled 42 years, the people rose up in rebellion against him. War broke out again in the land to such an extent that Riplakish was killed and his descendants were driven from the land. 9 After many years, Morianton, a descendant of Riplakish, gathered an army of exiles and attacked, gaining power over many cities. The war became severe and lasted many years, and he obtained power over the whole land and set himself up as king over the whole land. 10 After he had set himself up as king, he eased the people’s burdens, in this way winning their approval; and they anointed him to be their king. 11 He did what was right for the people, but not for himself, on account of his many whoredoms; so he was cut off from the Lord’s presence.
Paragraph 12
12
12 And it came to pass that Morionton built up many cities. And the people became exceeding rich under his reign, both in buildings, and in gold, and in silver, and in raising grain, and in flocks, and herds, and such things which had been restored unto them. 13 And Morionton did live to an exceeding great age, and then he begat Kim. And Kim did reign in the stead of his father; and he did reign eight years, and his father died. And it came to pass that Kim did not reign in righteousness; wherefore, he was not favored of the Lord. 14 And his brother did raise up in rebellion against him, in the which he did bring him into captivity. And he did remain in captivity all his days, and he begat sons and daughters in captivity. And in his old age he begat Levi, and he died.
Paragraph 12
12
12 Morianton established many cities. The people became very wealthy under his rule, in buildings, in gold and silver, in raising grain, in flocks and herds, and in those things that had been restored to them. 13 Morianton lived to a very old age, and then he had a son named Kim. Kim ruled as his father’s successor. He ruled eight years and his father died. But Kim didn’t rule in righteousness, and so the Lord didn’t bless him. 14 His brother rose up in rebellion against him, and as a result of the rebellion he captured him and enslaved him. He remained in captivity his whole life, having sons and daughters while living in captivity. In his old age, he had a son named Levi, just before he died.
Paragraph 13
13
15 And it came to pass that Levi did serve in captivity, after the death of his father, for the space of forty and two years. And he did make war against the king of the land, by which he did obtain unto himself the kingdom. 16 And after he had obtained unto himself the kingdom, he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord. And the people did prosper in the land. And he did live to a good old age and begat sons and daughters; and he also begat Corom, whom he anointed king in his stead.
Paragraph 13
13
15 Levi worked as a slave after his father’s death for 42 years. Then he made war against the king of the land and as a result he obtained for himself the kingdom. 16 After he had obtained the kingdom for himself, he did what was right in the Lord’s eyes. And the people prospered in the land. He lived a very long time and had sons and daughters. He also had a son named Corom, whom he anointed king in his place.
Paragraph 14
14
17 And it came to pass that Corom did that which was good in the sight of the Lord all his days, and he begat many sons and daughters. And after that he had seen many days, he did pass away, even like unto the rest of the earth; and Kish reigned in his stead. 18 And it came to pass that Kish passed away also, and Lib reigned in his stead. 19 And it came to pass that Lib also did that which was good in the sight of the Lord. And in the days of Lib the poisonous serpents were destroyed. Wherefore, they did go into the land southward to hunt food for the people of the land, for the land was covered with animals of the forest; and Lib also himself became a great hunter. 20 And they built a great city by the narrow neck of land, by the place where the sea divides the land. 21 And they did preserve the land southward for a wilderness to get game. And the whole face of the land northward was covered with inhabitants. 22 And they were exceeding industrious, and they did buy, and sell, and traffic one with another, that they might get gain. 23 And they did work in all manner of ore, and they did make gold, and silver, and iron, and brass, and all manner of metals; and they did dig it out of the earth. Wherefore, they did cast up mighty heaps of earth for to get ore, of gold, and of silver, and of iron, and of copper. And they did work all manner of fine work. 24 And they did have silks and fine twined linen, and they did work all manner of cloth, that they might clothe themselves from their nakedness. 25 And they did make all manner of tools to till the earth, both to plow and to sow, to reap and to hoe, and also to thrash. 26 And they did make all manner of tools, with which they did work their beasts. 27 And they did make all manner of weapons of war. And they did work all manner of work of exceeding curious workmanship. 28 And never could be a people more blessed than were they, and more prospered by the hand of the Lord. And they were in a land that was choice above all lands, for the Lord had spoken it.
Paragraph 14
14
17 Corom did what was right in the Lord’s eyes throughout his life, and he had many sons and daughters. After he had lived a long time, he died, like everyone else on earth, and Kish ruled as his successor. 18 Then Kish also died, and Lib ruled as his successor. 19 Lib also did what was right in the Lord’s eyes. During Lib’s time, the venomous snakes were eliminated. As a consequence, they went into the land to the south to hunt food for the people of the land, because the land was filled with forest animals. And Lib became a great hunter. 20 They built a large city by the narrow neck of land, where the sea divides the land. 21 They preserved the land to the south as a wilderness area where they could hunt wild game. And the whole land to the north was filled with inhabitants. 22 They were very industrious, and they bought, sold, and traded with each other in order to make money. 23 They processed all kinds of ore, and they refined gold, silver, iron, bronze, and all kinds of metals; and they dug these out of the ground. So they threw up great mounds of earth in order to recover ore of gold, silver, iron, and copper. They fashioned a variety of fine pieces of craftsmanship. 24 They had textiles and fine woven linen, and they made all kinds of cloth so they had clothes to wear and to dress themselves with. 25 They made all types of tools to cultivate the earth, to plow and sow, to reap and hoe, and to thresh. 26 They made all kinds of tools to use with their animals. 27 They made all types of weapons. They also made all kinds of elaborately worked objects. 28 No nation was ever more blessed than they were or given more prosperity by the Lord. And they were in a land specially chosen and better than all other places on earth, because the Lord had declared it.
Paragraph 15
15
29 And it came to pass that Lib did live many years and begat sons and daughters, and he also begat Hearthom. 30 And it came to pass that Hearthom reigned in the stead of his father. And when Hearthom had reigned twenty and four years, behold, the kingdom was taken away from him. And he served many years in captivity, yea, even all the remainder of his days. 31 And he begat Heth. And Heth lived in captivity all his days, and Heth begat Aaron. And Aaron dwelt in captivity all his days, and he begat Amnigaddah. And Amnigaddah also dwelt in captivity all his days, and he begat Coriantum. And Coriantum dwelt in captivity all his days, and he begat Com.
Paragraph 15
15
29 Lib lived many years and had sons and daughters, and he also had a son named Hearthom. 30 Hearthom ruled as his father’s successor. When Hearthom had ruled for 24 years, he lost the kingdom. He worked as a slave for many years, all the way to the end of his life. 31 He had a son named Heth. Heth lived in captivity his whole life, and he had a son named Aaron. Aaron lived in captivity his whole life, and he had a son named Amnigaddah. Amnigaddah also lived in captivity his whole life, and he had a son named Coriantum. And Coriantum lived in captivity his whole life, and he had a son named Com.
Paragraph 16
16
32 And it came to pass that Com drew away the half of the kingdom, and he reigned over the half of the kingdom forty and two years. And he went to battle against the king Amgid, and they fought for the space of many years, during which time Com gained power over Amgid and obtained power over the remainder of the kingdom. 33 And in the days of Com there began to be robbers in the land, and they adopted the old plans and administered oaths after the manner of the ancients, and sought again to destroy the kingdom. 34 Now Com did fight against them much; nevertheless, he did not prevail against them.
Paragraph 16
16
32 Com drew away half the kingdom and ruled over half the kingdom for 42 years. He went to battle against king Amgid, and they fought for many years, during which time Com gained power over Amgid and got control of the rest of the kingdom. 33 In Com’s days, robbers began to appear in the land, and they adopted the ancient plans, and administered oaths like those long ago did, again attempting to destroy the kingdom. 34 Now Com fought them a great deal, but he didn’t succeed in defeating them.
Paragraph 17
17
11 And there came also in the days of Com many prophets and prophesied of the destruction of that great people, except they should repent and turn unto the Lord, and forsake their murders and wickedness. 2 And it came to pass that the prophets were rejected by the people and they fled unto Com for protection, for the people sought to destroy them. 3 And they prophesied unto Com many things, and he was blessed in all the remainder of his days. 4 And he lived to a good old age and begat Shiblon. And Shiblon reigned in his stead.
Paragraph 17
17
11 During Com’s time, many prophets returned again, prophesying of that great nation’s destruction unless they repented and turned to the Lord and gave up committing murder and doing evil. 2 But the people rejected the prophets. And they fled to Com for protection, because the people tried to kill them. 3 They prophesied many things to Com, and he was blessed for the rest of his life. 4 Com lived a very long time and had a son named Shiblon; and Shiblon ruled as his successor.
Paragraph 18
18
And the brother of Shiblon rebelled against him, and there began to be an exceeding great war in all the land. 5 And it came to pass that the brother of Shiblon caused that all the prophets who prophesied of the destruction of the people should be put to death. 6 And there was great calamity in all the land — for they had testified that a great curse should come upon the land, and also upon the people, and that there should be a great destruction among them, such an one as never had been upon the face of the earth, and their bones should become as heaps of earth upon the face of the land, except they should repent of their wickedness. 7 And they hearkened not unto the voice of the Lord because of their wicked combinations; wherefore, there began to be wars and contentions in all the land, and also many famines and pestilences, insomuch that there was a great destruction, such an one as never had been known upon the face of the earth. And all this came to pass in the days of Shiblon. 8 And the people began to repent of their iniquity; and inasmuch as they did, the Lord did have mercy on them.
Paragraph 18
18
But Shiblon’s brother rebelled against him, and a massive war developed throughout the land. 5 Shiblon’s brother had all the prophets who prophesied of the people’s destruction put to death. 6 There were great difficulties and misery throughout the land since they had testified a great curse would come upon the land and upon the people and there would be terrible destruction among them, such as never had occurred on earth, and that their bones would be piled up on the land as mounds of earth unless they repented of their wickedness. 7 But they didn’t listen to the Lord’s voice because of their wicked conspiracies. As a result, wars and conflicts occurred throughout the land, and also famines, diseases, and calamities, so many it resulted in terrible destruction, unlike anything experienced before on earth. All this happened during Shiblon’s days. 8 And the people began to repent of their iniquity. To the degree they did, the Lord had mercy on them.
Paragraph 19
19
9 And it came to pass that Shiblon was slain, and Seth was brought into captivity and he did dwell in captivity all his days. 10 And it came to pass that Ahah, his son, did obtain the kingdom, and he did reign over the people all his days. And he did do all manner of iniquity in his days, by which he caused the shedding of much blood; and few were his days. 11 And Ethem, being a descendant of Ahah, did obtain the kingdom, and he also did do that which was wicked in his days. 12 And it came to pass in the days of Ethem, there came many prophets and prophesied again unto the people; yea, they did prophesy that the Lord would utterly destroy them from off the face of the earth except they repented of their iniquities. 13 And it came to pass that the people hardened their hearts and would not hearken unto their words. And the prophets mourned and withdrew from among the people.
Paragraph 19
19
9 Then Shiblon was killed, and Seth was captured, and he lived in captivity throughout his life. 10 His son Ahah obtained the kingdom, and he ruled over the people his whole life. He committed all kinds of iniquity during his life, resulting in the deaths of many people; and his life was short. 11 Ethem, a descendant of Ahah, obtained the kingdom; and he also acted wickedly during his life. 12 During Ethem’s time, many prophets came again and prophesied to the people. They prophesied the Lord would completely destroy them and remove them from the earth unless they repented of their iniquities. 13 But the people hardened their hearts and refused to listen. And the prophets mourned and withdrew from the people.
Paragraph 20

14 And it came to pass that Ethem did execute judgment in wickedness all his days, and he begat Moron. And it came to pass that Moron did reign in his stead, and Moron did that which was wicked before the Lord. 15 And it came to pass that there arose a rebellion among the people because of that secret combination which was built up to get power and gain. And there arose a mighty man among them in iniquity and gave battle unto Moron, by which he did overthrow the half of the kingdom; and he did maintain the half of the kingdom for many years. 16 And it came to pass that Moron did overthrow him and did obtain the kingdom again. 17 And it came to pass that there arose another mighty man, and he was a descendant of the brother of Jared. 18 And it came to pass that he did overthrow Moron and obtain the kingdom; wherefore, Moron dwelt in captivity all the remainder of his days, and he begat Coriantor.
Paragraph 20
20
14 Ethem executed the laws in wickedness his whole life; and he had a son named Moron, who ruled as his successor. Moron lived wickedly in the Lord’s eyes. 15 A rebellion arose among the people because of the secret conspiracy that was established in order to obtain power and wealth. A strong man arose among them, powerful in evil, who engaged Moron in battle, by which he conquered half the kingdom; and he held onto half the kingdom for many years. 16 At length Moron defeated him and regained the kingdom. 17 Another powerful man rose up in rebellion, and he was a descendant of Jared’s brother. 18 He defeated Moron and obtained the kingdom. As a result, Moron lived in captivity the rest of his life, and he had a son named Coriantor.
Paragraph 21
21
19 And it came to pass that Coriantor dwelt in captivity all his days. 20 And in the days of Coriantor there also came many prophets and prophesied of great and marvelous things, and cried repentance unto the people, and except they should repent, the Lord God would execute judgment against them to their utter destruction, 21 and that the Lord God would send or bring forth another people to possess the land by his power, after the manner which he brought their fathers. 22 And they did reject all the words of the prophets because of their secret society and wicked abominations. 23 And it came to pass that Coriantor begat Ether, and he died having dwelt in captivity all his days.
Paragraph 21
21
19 And Coriantor lived in captivity his whole life. 20 During his time, many prophets also came, prophesying of great and miraculous things and begging the people to repent — that unless they repented, the Lord God would execute judgment against them to their complete destruction, 21 and the Lord God would send or bring forth another people to live there, by His power and in the same way He brought their ancestors. 22 But they rejected everything the prophets said because of their secret society and their wicked abominations. 23 Coriantor had a son named Ether; and he died, having lived in captivity his whole life.
